So I’ve been a fan of Turbulence Training and Craig Ballantyne for longer than I’ve known about kettlebells. When I was going through my latest serious fat-burning period (started at 209, now low 180s) his program helped tremendously.

So when I heard there’s a Turbulence Training program for kettlebells … Well … I knew I had no choice but to share it with you!

Now a bit of a disclaimer here … It’s not Craig Ballantyne himself who teaches this course. No, it’s one of his original certified instructors, Chris Lopez.

And even though Ballantyne is good at spotting things that will work with fitness, he actually ignored kettlebells for a while. He even did secret kettlebell workouts at home, behind Lopez’s back, as he tested the fat-incinerating power of kettlebells (you can read the full story at the link below). But now he’s fully on board, and thinks you should be too.

I don’t have room to tell you the whole story here. So go ahead and click the link below to be taken straight to the Turbulence Training Kettlebell Revolution Fat Loss Workouts story:

Barbell and Kettlebell Complexes to Take Your Body to a New Level of Hardness and Conditioning

Mike Geary, NCSF-CPT, AFAA-CPT

If you’ve never heard of “complexes” before, the basic concept is that instead of repeating the same exercise for multiple reps to complete a “set”, you sequence one rep of several different exercises right after one another and repeat the sequence several times to complete a “set”.

This type of training is excellent to work a huge amount of musculature in a short amount of time, and definitely takes your workouts to a whole new level of intensity. The conditioning aspect of this type of training is amazing, as you’ll find yourself huffing and puffing after repeating a sequence a mere two or three times.

If I had to venture a guess, I’d have to say …

Saw a cool Men’s Fitness article recently on New NFL Training Methods, thought I’d share. In it, it reveals the Baltimore Ravens and Tennessee Titans have both added kettlebells to their weight rooms recently.

The description of “why” they did is more telling — and why kettlebells should and will continue to be adopted by more and more athletes:

The biggest benefit? When players swing a kettlebell, the weight distribution changes, unlike with regular dumbbells where weight remains equal. This forces the user to stabilize more parts of his body, hitting his core, and helping to increase grip strength as he adjusts to control the weight.

Exactly why kettlebells are such a powerful training method!

Other new training methods? Bikram “Hot” Yoga, Mixed Martial Arts, and Acupuncture. Interesting.

Stay strong!

I have given birth 6 times. I am 40 years old and not long ago a friend of mine said to me, “Leah you were just meant to be chunky.” NOT…I started with boot camp at the Y and now am an avid kettlebell enthusiast. I melted inches off my 4′ 10″ frame and dropped pants sizes. I have tight biceps and triceps and endurance to spare. I did it. I do it everyday. If you love your family then use them as your motivation. Good luck. If you do something for 21 days straight it becomes a habit. Start today and don’t stop.

From my hotel room at Hyatt Place in Atlanta, Georgia…

I’ve been traveling a lot recently, and have been without my kettlebells while on the road. So I’ve had to improvise with body weight exercises for a quick hotel room workout — because I’m just not that into hotel fitness centers.

So here’s what I’ve done, and it’s worked pretty well to keep my conditioning up.

(Just finished a set and my heart’s thumping and my breath is heavy!)

My quick hotel room workout:

- Do 5 burpees (video below)
- Rest, counting to 10 seconds
- Repeat 8 times back to back (roughly 4 minutes)

This is roughly equivalent to a Tabata interval workout.

It engages many of your muscles in dynamic work. And the cardio on it is killer — despite the deceptive simplicity of the workout.

While on the road you should do this at least once a day — preferably 2-5 times for maximum benefit.

And you don’t have to use this as just a hotel room workout either, because this can be done anywhere, with no equipment needed.

Stay strong!

Roy

P.S. — Here’s the video of burpees, if you’re not familiar:

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/13/opinion/13tue2.html?_r=2&ref=opinion" target="_blank">here.)

(I may make money by running advertising on my site? Gasp!)

So, even though I think my readers are smart enough to figure this out on their own, I’m going to provide a formal disclosure, just in case someone at the FTC decides to come knocking on my door, asking about this.

Some of the links from KettlebellWall to sites of interest may contain a small piece of information to inform the sites I send you to that I’m the one who sent you.

Then if you decide to make a purchase from those sites, they may pay me a portion of your purchase as a referral fee.

It happens everywhere on the internet, including here.

Let me add something to that though.

I’M NOT being paid in advance for endorsing anything.

I AM going out on my own, doing my own research, and picking products I like and feel excited to endorse — regardless of any compensation. Then in the cases where I can earn compensation for endorsing them, I set that up with the merchant.

It’s how the cogs of capitalism turn my friend, and what allows me to continue publishing useful information on kettlebells for you.

Disclaimer done. Thank goodness. Now we can get back to kettlebells!

Stay Strong!

Roy

Wow. Jillian Michaels’ kettlebell advice is going to kill someone. Seriously. Or at least break their wrists.

I was just watching her QVC pitch-fest for overpriced adjustable kettlebells and her misdirected kettlebell training video.

Now I’ve been the first result on Google for a while when you search for “jillian michaels kettlebell.” What comes up is my blog post Video: Massive Kettlebell Fail By Jillian Michaels on The Biggest Loser (opens in a new window).

Thankfully so, too. Because she needs to be exposed for the danger she is.

In her QVC spot, the demos show multiple instances of poor kettlebell form. The only saving grace is the weight of the kettlebell she’s selling is so small it’s unlikely to injure someone. But if someone gets into kettlebells taking her bad advice, and then moves up in weight, they’re going to injured. Period.

And in Enter The Kettlebell! Pavel would say “It’s your fault” if you get injured. However if you follow Jillian Michaels’ bad advice, I’d have to say it’s HER fault too — for putting herself out there as a qualified instructor without learning proper form herself first.

Listen, if you want to get into kettlebells and want a kettlebell-video combo, here’s two worth trying (which won’t get you killed):

Women’s 26 Lb Kettlebell Quick-Start Kit with DVD (designed for women but good for men too)

Men’s 35 Lb Kettlebell Quick-Start Kit with DVD (designed for men but good for women too)

Oh yeah, and if you promise not to buy her advice (but still want to listen to the benefits of kettlebells and see the poor form in her demo) you can watch the Jillian Michaels QVC video here.

And stay strong!
