The Beast Tamer Kettlebell Hall Of Fame

Do you know what it takes to tame The Beast?

Oh wait, just to make sure, you do know what The Beast is, right? It’s a 48 kg / 106 lb kettlebell.

And while 106 lb may not seem like that much to a normal lifter, squatting barbells and the like, when it comes to kettlebells multiply the weight by a factor of 3 or 4 to start to imagine what working with The Beast is like.

It takes grace. And it takes grit.

Well, Dragon Door has put together The Beast Tamer Hall Of Fame.

To tame The Beast you have to successfully complete 3 exercises:

  1. You have to Press The Beast
  2. You have to do a Pistol with The Beast
  3. You have to do a tactical Pull Up with The Beast

And to date there are only 13 people who have successfully tamed The Beast.

I think that’s worth mention in The Beast Tamer Hall Of Fame.

To learn who these super-strength inductees are, and even to see pictures of them taming the beast, head on over to Dragon Door’s The Beast Tamer Hall Of Fame!

Kettlebells and Boxing – From the Dragon Door Forums

Found this on the Dragon Door Forums — shows how serious training with kettlebells can pay off well beyond what you might expect.

I had my first boxing match this weekend. It was my first time stepping in the ring period. I’ve never been trained by a boxing coach, sparred with anybody, or hit the heavy bag. I do, however, train with kettlebells like they’re going out of style and do my best to be the strongest and most conditioned as possible.

My opponent was shorter than me by 5″ but weighed 2 more pounds. My weight class was light heavyweight. He was a good bit stronger than me and could hit like a freight train. I ended up winning but it wasn’t because I was a superior fighter…………it’s because I was more conditioned.

Although he was stronger and about the same speed, he didn’t have enough gas in his tank the last 2 rounds but mine was still half full. Just wanted to share another benefit of Hardstyle kettlebell training. My heart and lungs is what brought me my victory and I can only attribute it to KBs. Thanks for reading.

Philip Davis, RKC

Congrats Philip, and keep it up!

Anyone considering using kettlebells to cross-train for sports, take note.

Here’s a little hint to take this beyond what Philip experienced.

If you’re a boxer and you have to go for 3 minute rounds with 1 minute breaks, map your kettlebell work to that. 3 minutes on, 1 minute recovery. And repeat for as many rounds as you need to be on for.

The stamina you build will be UNSTOPPABLE!

Not a boxer? Map the time to your requirements for your sport.

Pretty soon you’ll be smoking all comers…

Why get RKC Kettlebell Certification? (part deux)

This is a follow up to Why get RKC Kettlebell Certification?

I got an email last week from Dave “Iron Tamer” Whitley pointing me to his “Why RKC?” blog post here. Now there’s been plenty of dispute over what the best kettlebell certification is. Or, more accurately, what the best value in kettlebell certification is.

Dave’s insights are probably the best I’ve heard.

Here’s the 3 points he made:

  1. We are the original. With out Pavel, we would not be asking questions about kettlebells in the US. Pavel and John Du Cane not only created a market, but they have also created all the competition within that market. Every kettlebell instructor course in the US can be traced back to the RKC, whether the information was learned from Pavel or publicized by him, RKC is the source.
  2. It’s not about the Kettlebell. With the involvement of Gray Cook and the Functional Movement Screen, as well as the relationship RKC has with Dr. Eric Cobb and the Z-Health system, we have continually evolved toward improving MOVEMENT first. The Kettlebell is the tool we use to teach principals of movement and strength.
  3. We continuously evolve. The material we teach now is not the same as it was even a year ago, never mind several years ago. It is constantly improving. Constantly digging deeper.

These (in my opinion) are three solid reasons to prefer RKC over the other kettlebell certifications in the marketplace. On top of my previous post here.

Not only is RKC certification THE leader in market recognition, it’s also THE leader in thought and practice around the use of kettlebells in training.

That said, good luck to everyone going to this weekend’s San Diego RKC Instructor Certification.

And if you’re starting to be swayed, here’s where you can go to find out about all upcoming RKC certification courses, and register today.

Video: 6 Minute Kettlebell Workout

A friend of mine who I recently turned on to kettlebells showed this video to me. It’s a Crossfit Jersey Shore video demonstrating how you can combine Tabata intervals with a simple rotation of kettlebell exercises to get a powerful workout in just 6 minutes.

Here’s the video:

Here’s a listing of each exercise in the video:

  • 1-Hand Swing (R)
  • 1-Hand Swing (L)
  • High Pull (R)
  • High Pull (L)
  • Snatch (R)
  • Snatch (L)
  • 1-Hand Swing (R)
  • 1-Hand Swing (L)
  • High Pull (R)
  • High Pull (L)
  • Snatch (R)
  • Snatch (L)

I’ve been using this concept for my workouts for the last week or so and have been rockin’ it. (Especially because I just bumped up to a 53lb as my primary kettlebell.)

If you’d like a bunch of workouts based on this concept be sure to sign up on the right hand side for the KettlebellWall news and updates. I’m putting together a special report that will contain at least 7 workouts you can use right away plus how to turn them up or down to meet your goals. Until then…

Video: David Whitley RKC Kettlebell Insanity

So have you heard the joke about the kettlebell trainer who presses the woman with one hand, and a kettlebell with the other?

Okay, so it isn’t a joke.

In fact, it’s in a video I’m about to show you.

This is Dave “The Iron Tamer” Whitley RKC in a show reel of impressive kettlebell lifts. He was featured on a recent Kettlebell Secrets call and that’s what sent me scouring YouTube for this video. And now I have it to share with you.

Plus, you’ll see Dave juggling The Beast, doing impressive double presses, and a whole lot more.

Here’s the video for your viewing pleasure:

Impressive, huh?
